These were actually portions of pics I had cropped with my trimmer... of Kate and Grace- for another layout. I cannot ever throw out a photo, though, and so created this layout... which gave me the idea for the sketch. So... AHEM... technically, I worked backwards, but that's OK! I do that a LOT. Shhhh... don't tell anyone! LOL

"Dog Guide in the Family" layout LOAD DAY 18

Notes:

~This is our son's Autism Assistance Dog Guide "Argo" the week he joined us as part of our family, Dec 17, 2010. Pete and I had just brought himn home from ON where we received the traioning needed to handle him and help him work well wiht Noah, who was age 8 at the time. As you can see, Argo is a sweetie. My DD Kate (17) dressed him in her scarf one day at home, LOL. Made us ALL smile. I ran for the camera! ~ OF COURSE!!!~ His name is Argo and he is a black Lab. TY Lions Foundation of Canada!

Every day when the bus brings you home, Daddy and I look forward to reading about your school day in the Communication Book that we all share. Imagine how excited we were to read that you had painted a picture at Circle time, chosen the colours and independently said “Painting all finished” when you felt your creation was all done!!
SO proud of you: Bravo Noah! I really think your painting looks like a Stegosaurus!

"Bebe Garcon Magnifique" LOAD DAY 21

This is my sister Alexandra and her husband Cody... they are with their sweet little son, William. He is 5 months old here. :o)
This is an interesting page. Teehee... I delved into my scrappy stash and finally got to use the "Bebe" cutout... I had been saving it for ages- bought it on clearance and loved it from the moment I saw it. Since Alex and Cody have a bilingual family, I KNEW it'd be perfect here. The other stash item I finally got to use was the cute tan baby paper from Karen Foster (2005). I had been saving it for a LO since I bought it in 2007, which was when the V&S in Middleton
closed and I bought the remainder of their scrapbooking supplies.

Journaling:

Noah, something struck me today. I was looking at pictures of you at preschool & you looked so “little.” You had JUST been diagnosed with ASD. I mean, you were a baby… then you were diagnosed… then we were in the middle of it, finding our way, finding help, fighting for you. You were born, you were a baby, you were diagnosed & we never stopped. No breaks. Looking at this picture of you sleeping, my littlest bug, reminds me how it’s all been worth it—it’s been tough too, on all of us. Good thing you’re the lovable kiddo you are.
Autism is tough. Loving you is not.

Journaling here consists of a letter I sent the Tteam after Pete and I had a session with the Team & Chris Fowler, Autism Assistance Dog Guides (Lions Foundation of Canada) Head Trainer. They are an AMAZING TEAM.

Dear Mrs. H, Mrs. W, Mrs. W, and Noah's current EAs; D and S,

I just wanted to relay HUGE & sincere thanks to each of you regarding your acceptance of and enthusiasm about Argo as a "helpful agent" as Noah's Dog Guide in the upcoming school year.

TY also for sharing such specific questions the other day when Chris & Argo visited with us at the school. Many small details and larger topic areas were covered. So reassuring that we are all on the same page, with all those "dots getting connected!" The ball is rolling and it's SO exciting!

Mrs. Wxxxx, TY for once again making time for us and Argo in the classroom, when we popped in rather on the spur of the moment in contrast to the wonderful planned visit we enjoyed with you and your students in the previous week! We are appreciative of ALL the classroom time you've lent us. The students were delightful as well, what pertinent questions they asked! We enjoyed meeting them so much!

Peter and I are excited beyond belief that we will be stepping into another new adventure in mid-September with Chris' guidance as Argo begins accompanying Noah to school. The Lions Foundation of Canada has our gratitude... beyond words. We know that Chris will be invaluable in helping smooth this transition for Argo, Noah and our school community.
Knowing we will continue to work along with Noah's amazing school Team makes Pete and I so happy. I have often shouted from the rooftops how each of you, whom I always call "Team Noah" are valued and treasured. We could never "do what we do" with our little boy without the help he receives at school. We are all extensions of one another, this we know. As we work together toward meeting new challenges and making positive transitions, this exceptional continuity gives us great hope.

"The Half-Brothers Play" LOAD DAY 25

Journaling:

Argo and Viper have the same father-- "Holden." They're half-brothers. Each dog now belongs to a child with ASD in NS. They graduated in the LFC Autism Assistance Dog Guide Program together in mid-December 2010. When they get together, they have a BLAST playing!

March 2011, Argo and Viper playing in our messy backyard- not quite Spring!

(Ali's note... Viper [who was named after the sports car, we all think] and his family came to visit us from 2 hrs away here in the Annapolis Valley... we are friends, because we all trained together in Ontario at the Lions Foundation in Oakville ON, in Dec. : and now it's so much fun to see the dogs playing together!! They are buddies and love each other a LOT.)

"Walking"

Because Noah’s Autism Spectrum Disorder can cause him to impulsively bolt away, possibly into a dangerous situation, someone still needed to hold his hand when we were out with his Dog Guide.
In this photo, you can see how we did outings/walks with Noah and Argo before we had the waist belt (tether) training. Pete would hold the leash, Noah held Argo’s harness handle, and Bryan (or another sibling/grown up) held Noah’s other hand to keep him safe from bolting.
In May 2011, as soon as the Lions Foundation of Canada’s Head Trainer Chris Fowler came and taught us how to use the waist belt, another “pair of hands” was no longer necessary.
Here’s why….Once Noah and Argo were tethered together on outings, just one grown up was needed. That person held Argo’s leash. If, while out, Noah tried to bolt, all the adult would have to say is “Argo: STAY!” Argo will immediately lie down so that Noah cannot bolt away into danger. (Ever try to drag a 73 lb Labrador Retriever? Nope! Not possible! **wink**)
What a help and wow, does it ever ease our minds that Argo knows EXACTLY what to do should it be necessary to protect Noah!!!

This is a snowman picture that our little guy, Noah, age 9, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, made at Circle Time this Jan or Feb at school.

He is learning to use specially designed scissors and did quite well with cutting the circles. (That info is printed out and adhered to the back of this LO.)

"Gator Dudes" LOAD DAY 30

Journaling:

Of all his toys, Argo loved his ‘Gator squeakable stuffie the best. I often found him cuddling with it! Mom’s scrapbooking friend Helen H. from Cambridge, Ontario (Sisterhood of Scrap) gave it to Argo as a “graduation” gift when he completed the Lions Foundation of Canada’s Autism Assistance Dog Guide Programme and came home with us to be Noah’s special helper.

Ornament made with Daniel's fingerprints in Grade 4. I LOVE this ornament!! Clever!!!!

Daniel was 9 at the time.

Well, everyone, there are the last 15 of my 31 LOAD layouts all in a row for you. Hope you liked them! I had a blast doing every one of them. Some came more easily to me than others... as is always the case. It's a processs though, and I LOVE IT!

I have seven (7) June 2011 LOs already done for my personal "30 in 30" challenge (ie: 30 LOs in 30 days) and I will upload those tomorrow AM.
