LOAD Layouts: Days 11-20

Here are the rest of the layouts I completed in February for Lain Ehmann's "Layout A Day" (LOAD) Challenge. Thanks for looking and reading! I had such a blast with these!
"Trailer Horse"  LOAD Day 11
Journaling reads:
You and Grace are awaiting your turn to go to the cross country field, having already completed the dressage and jumping events. You were both happy and relaxed. Your horse even “smiled” for the camera!

I coloured the clear gems with my Copic Markers so they'd match the floral flourish! Used colours Y26 and E55.

"Showing 'off the trailer'" LOAD Day 12
Journaling:
XYZ Farm Schooling Show
When you and your friends went to the XYZ Farm Schooling Show in June 2011, you were showing “off the trailer”. That means you all used your coach Alissa’s trailer as a kind of home base during the show’s events. Your horses, tack, supplies, feed and schedules were all there at the ready. It was very neat for me and Daddy to see you and Grace doing such a variety of work together this day, and how things went when a rider and and her horse use a trailer as a home base.

"Daddy is a hero" LOAD Day 13
Journaling:
Daddy is a hero.
No doubt about it.
He built this play set for you two, Daniel and Noah, from a kit we ordered & bought at Kent Building supplies in New Minas, NS. It came from the store in Moncton, NB on a truck before we went to pick it up and bring it home.
The nine, 8 ft long 4x4’s came from a local building store and were the only thing we had to buy separately. They were secured together with metal brackets from the kit and Daddy mentioned several times how amazing they were in action. They were simple to use and really made the structure sturdy and safe for you to climb, swing and slide on.
This playset had a total of 10 activities for you guys to enjoy… all in one large structure. This included a little cabana with a canopy roof on top for you to lounge in!
Building it was a huge job, and as you can see, Daniel, I have the evidence that you were really into supervising and helping where you could. Mom even helped a teensy bit (as best her legs would allow) at the beginning with the 4x4’s and brackets, but your Daddy did the bulk of the work.
Yep— he sure is a hero!

"The Creekside Playset" LOAD Day 14
Journaling:
Noah and Daniel, here is your beautiful play set- both a line drawing found in the plans and two photos of it all put together. Mom helped a wee little bit but Dad did most of it himself. It was a huge job but it sure looked gorgeous when it was all done! The fact of the matter is that Noah really needed this because most of it could be used all year ‘round to help meet some of his very high sensory needs. The swinging, sliding and climbing would help use up some of his extra energy and the shaded sandbox would be awesome in summertime. Daniel enjoyed all the fun, too! Both boys just plain LOVED this!

"Best Backyard" LOAD Day 15
Journaling:
We always say we have the best backyard for our little guys… lots of trees and it’s all fenced, too! We have a 21” deep pool with built-in sunshade, and a 12’ trampoline for them. This summer, to help meet some of Noah’s sensory needs, we built a multi-functional climber/sandbox/slide/swing play set.  Everything combines to make a fun and functional backyard!
PS~ When we get the yearning for a campfire, we set up the chiminea, get some kindling, and light it up!
June & July 2011

"Swing!" LOAD  Day 16
Journaling:
Dad hadn’t yet finished putting together the new playset in the backyard, but Noah and
Daniel were already enjoying the swings! See the level on the swing’s top beam?
Daddy was still working on it!
Hmmm… come to think of it, I see that another “someone” was enjoying a swing, too! *wink*

"Looking Forward, Looking Back" LOAD Day 19
Journaling:
Noah was born in April, but we planned a celebration in June this year so “partygoers” could use the new backyard playset Daddy had built!
For Noah’s 9th Birthday Party, we invited a family who had 2 kiddos close to Noah’s age to come and play. We had a picnic & the kids enjoyed time outside on the playset, in the kiddie pool and on the trampoline before cake and ice cream time indoors. Noah CLEARLY enjoyed his cake! Actually, he enjoyed the whole party.
Noah has really expanded his understanding of these yearly celebrations. Another small victory… we see it more clearly each time his birthday rolls around!
And, of course, we celebrate that small victory in addition to the incredible gift that Noah has been to our family. Love you, buddy!

"IWK Dental Visit" LOAD Day 20
Journaling:
Noah, I got some great photos of you, Daddy and Argo climbing the stairs and navigating the hallways on the way to your yearly dental check up at the IWK Children’s Hospital in Halifax. This was one of the most major outings we had with Argo along and everyone did great! Argo was well-received at the dental office and you were a champ, too, even though this was a fairly new experience for you. Bravo you guys!! SO PROUD OF YOU!

Journaling:
“The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and fire.” ~ Sharon Ralls Lemon
Kate, your riding has brought you so much, and in concert with your education, what a combination has resulted! Your grace under pressure and work ethic are part of that. Your Dad and I wish you the ability to see the true beauty in everything you encounter, the spirit to overcome challenges that need to be leapt over, and the fire to fight for what’s important to you and what you believe in. Congratulations on your high school graduation, we are so proud of you!

"Dressage" LOAD Day 22
Journaling:
Dressage is part of “eventing” which includes three portions: dressage, jumping and cross country. Grace had never competed in dressage before today. Since this was a schooling show, it was a great opportunity to try it out!  On this day, the dressage took place in an indoor arena, and she was eager to get back outside. Grace was not too keen on dressage… she was more excited to move on to jumping and cross country. Cross country was always her favourite!

"Iris eye-candy" LOAD Day 23

Journaling:
These irises all grow in our front and side gardens here on B***** Drive. They are so showy and beautiful every spring! We’re so lucky to have this gorgeous sight!
The huge dark purple and bright yellow flowers grew from bulbs that were here when we moved into the house in June 2001.
The smaller, light coloured irises with paler purple bases were originally from Grandma Lillian’s garden in Moncton, NB. They were given to us by Pete’s parents, and came from their garden in Riverview, NB. So pretty!

"Our Valley Batch" LOAD Day 26
Journaling:
Pete and I always laughingly call Daniel and Noah the “Valley batch.”  That’s because we had 2 kids born out west, and 2 in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. We call our two eldest children, Kate and Bryan, the “Alberta batch.” Having two “batches” of kiddos means you can say fun things like that. We always like to make people laugh and this always gets a big grin and a giggle. Despite the 5 year age spread between “batches,” we love each bunch of kids the same. We know that would do it this way again in a heartbeat!

Here she is getting the day’s “Schedule of events” sheet out of the pocket in the horse trailer in order to double check the time they would need to head to the cross country field.

Have a wonderful March break with your kiddos, for those who are celebrating one this week!! We are enjoying the time at home, Pete is studying part of the time while we're all here. We have gone for drives, to the barn to see the horses and just generally relaxed thus far! We made Choco chip cookies yesterday and also a new 5- layered dip recipe to eat while we watched the Two Towers (from LOTR). Bryan's girlfriend was over to meet us so that was fun! She is a sweetie!
Thanks to everyone, for popping by! Hope you enjoyed these LOs as much as I enjoyed creating them.

And here is my creation!

"This boy sayz"... layout #9 in 2012
Here is the journaling:
This boy sayz...“I am a cat person!!”
Daniel had always loved cats.
He came by it honestly, as part of a family that loved and enjoyed felines for as far back as he could remember. When he told us that he considered himself a “cat person,” we were not the least but surprised. We thought it was soooo
darned cute!

Excellent article for parents/families...

Most of you who know me know that I have MS and a little boy with special needs---  we have a family of 4 wonderful kids and life is very busy. I am blessed with a super-extraordinary guy who helps me more than any husband I know helps out his family!
Organizing is my forte though, and keeping us on a path that gets us through with minimal stress is my job in this family. I have a few tricks of the trade that help keep us organized and on a good road, decreasing stress and "chaos" that can arise from little things that can "add up."
This AM, I was reading online and came across an article that exemplifies many of these tricks and explains the ideas so well that I just HAD to share it with you today. Please read, take what you can use, and enjoy feeling less stressed no matter what your life situation.

 HERE is the article.

What do you already do?

What can you improve?

What do you find most challenging?

((HUGZ)) for the day ahead!

LOAD 2-12 (Layout a Day): Days 1-10!!

LOAD 2-12 Day 1
Grace
Journaling reads: March Break arrived, and along with it, the time to have some photos done.I love having these photos of Grace as a keepsake. What a gentle and beautiful mare!

LOAD 2-12 Day 2
Eventing

Journaling reads:

Hobby Horse Farm Eventing Show, June 2011 Kate and Grace were approaching the very last jump on the cross-country course, their last event of the day.

As Kate says, “All of a sudden I realized I didn’t have support under my foot. That was when my stirrup leather broke!” No-one was injured, and Kate got off her horse. She led Grace off the field.

When you look at the photos, you can see the loose stirrup leather under Grace’s tummy. Kate is carrying the stirrup iron. It was just an unfortunate occurrence because they had been having such a great round!

LOAD 2-12 Day 3
 35 Years and a Gluten-Free Squirrel

Journaling reads: Kingston, NS; June 2011
Daniel loved to see the squirrels in our yard. We have at least two, since we have huge pines and lots of space. This little fellow loved being fed the crusts from Noah’s gluten-free bread. He was very healthy looking and busy, visiting every morning. Daniel called him “Hammy.” He watched for Hammy before school while very quietly looking out the laundry room window onto the deck. It always made me smile to see how much Daniel enjoyed his morning encounter with the little guy!

Andover, NB; January 1976
Apparently my grandparents also loved little critters like Daniel’s friend Hammy. He kept them entertained! They were gentle people. Wild creatures were fascinating to them, even though, like us, they lived in a semi-rural area and saw them fairly often. Grammie was wonderful about writing letters to us. She always had something interesting to tell. We looked forward to getting her letters! This is one that my sister Mary and I received from Grammie and Grampie in the winter of 1976.
(I was 10 yrs old, and my sister Mary was 8.)

LOAD  2-12 Day 4
Grade 5 Graduation

Journaling reads: Daniel’s Graduation from Grade Five at Kingston and District Elementary School was held on the last day of the 2010-2011 school year. The students from his class were called up one by one and received their certificates from their teachers Mrs. Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Lincoln and the school principal Mrs. Harris and vice principal Mrs. MacAloney. The gym has always been hard to take pictures in, but today, Daniel was walking soooo fast that he was like a speeding bullet! So, we have a photo of a grey blur passing in front of the teachers after he received his certificate~!! We did manage to get a photo of him walking out of the gym, though, after the ceremony!

LOAD 2-12 Day 5
Experience Connections

Journaling reads: Kate, you and Grace have such a strong tie. You can see it from every angle in these beautiful photos by Danique.
Your connection is effortless and beautiful: it truly must be an “emotional experience” for you.
Love you both, my beautiful girls…   ~ Mom

LOAD 2-12 Day 6
Little Girl Dreams

Journaling reads: Little Girl Dreams
Kate, when you were little, you always told me you wanted to grow up to be “Subway sandwich artist in the mornings, and a vet in the afternoons.” It was so cute, and it always made your Daddy and I laugh.  As the years went by, your dreams changed. One of them was to own a horse… In 2008 we were able to make your dream come true when we bought you Oakley, a 14.2 hands high Haflinger-quarterhorse pony. When you grew too tall to ride her, we found Oakley a wonderful new family and, on the advice of your riding coach, bought you Grace, a 16.2hh Hanoverian-thoroughbred. You and Grace definitely have a special bond. You’ve been dedicated to working with and training her- she’s been a worthwhile project and has taught you so many life lessons! As time goes on, your dreams are changing- you graduate from high school this year and what dreams arise and are fulfilled remain to be seen. “Dream On,” my beautiful girl. Love, Mom

Journaling: Feb 2012
LOAD 2-12 Day 7
Ball Time

Journaling reads: Bryan, you and Argo had the most wonderful time playing ball outside together! Playing ball is not Noah’s fave thing to do, and so, thinking that Argo might miss it, I asked you to run out and chuck the ball for him. It soon became apparent that the two of you were having a blast! I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos of the fun!

LOAD 2-12 Day 9
Eager to go
Journaling reads: In these shots taken by Daddy, Kate and Grace are heading onto the Cross Country field at hobby Horse Farm. They are looking so “together…” Grace was clearly looking forward to this, as you can tell— Cross Country was her favourite event. Kate looks so proud to be riding her!

Coldbrook, NS, June 2011
Journaling by Mom, February 2012

LOAD 2-12: Day 10
Walk the Walk for Autism
Journaling reads:
June 18, 2011- Daddy took his boys to Middleton for the annual “Walk the Walk for Autism,” which is an awareness and fundraising event that is province-wide in Nova Scotia. Several locations hold “Walks.” There were many local sponsors, and a huge turnout of over 150 people. The rain held off— skies had been grey and threatening looking all day!  Argo was there beside Noah as his faithful Autism Assistance Dog Guide. Iris, our friends’ AADG, was there with her little boy, Zac, too! Argo and Iris were the only AADGs present at the Walk. A few people did come up to Daddy and ask about Argo, since AADGs are fairly new and there were two at this event!! The funds raised at the 2011 “Walk the Walk for Autism” were used to help fund an Autism Summer Day Camp in our area. (Notice how Daniel has a book under his arm in the first photo!)

Hope you liked the 10 new layouts! I am having sooo much fun with LOAD- yet again! See you soon!

LOAD 2-12

~~ I am so very excited about LOAD! ~~

Pete gave me a registration to "LOAD 212" for Christmas... as part of the scrappiness he always gives me that time of year.
So... not only did I get oodles of awesome Close to My Heart (*CTMH) goodies to scrap with, I also got my LOAD registration! Thank You hon.

What's LOAD? Well, it's Layout a Day, with scrapbooker, teacher, author and FUN, CARING, REAL PERSON Lain Ehmann. This will be my second LOAD...  I did one last year as well. That's in addition to completing one of Lain's LOAD-based online classes with my friend Ann Seleshanko. So, really, I guess this will be #3 LOAD for me.

So, what do I love about LOAD?

1) I will get 29 new LOs done in 29 days.

2) I get new and interesting prompts from Lain every day to spur me on.

3) There is a  Flickr group of awesome scrappers to share and chat with.

4) We LOAD-sters have a Gallery all our own, where we can post our LOs in a Photostream & give/receive feedback/support to our sisters.

5) The Gallery will remain handy & accessible to us online after LOAD is completed! LOVE this!

6) I get to spend virtual time sharing and discussing LOAD-related scrappy things with my good friend Ann S., who lives 5000 miles away in AB.

7) Lain is genuinely funny, and a blast to have around.

8)There are prizes!!!

9) I get to share ideas for FAST crockpot meals! LOAD-sters last year loved this & some asked me to share again, LOL! LOVE to share recipes.

10) During LOAD, I will scrap some BIG photos. Do you know how many of those we HAVE? Yes, we have 4 kids. That means we have a bazillion big pics to get scrapped, & saved. They're fast to do up, but it seems that except for when I am a little pressed for time during LOAD, they do not  get done! I have saved some up for this very month! LOL Those will get done, and that's an awesome thing to accomplish.

11) I get to use MANY "Close to My Heart" goodies from my scrappy supplies and scrap a LOT after the little kiddos go to bed during February!

12) I get to dig into my stash of scrapbooking goodness. WHAT could be better than that?

There are 12 things-- FOR STARTERS-- about why I love doing, LOAD

It's easy to register for this awesome month-long scrappy event.
I guarantee you'll love it. Here's the link: LOAD 212

Another Layout!

Had a beautiful Sketch by Ann Seleshanko over at S: CY this week. Here it is:

S: CY Sketch #2-12 by my friend and S:CY
 Senior Designer  Ann Seleshanko
...and here's my interpretation of the latest Sketch...
"A Slurpee with my Bro' " - layout #2 in 2012 from moi
using Sketch #2-12 at S: CY
The journaling reads:

Bryan, just look at the way your little brother is looking at you. He is so thrilled with the blue Slurpee that you brought back to him when Dad took you to the store! Noah knows how cool and delicious it tastes and how much he’s been enjoying it. The expression on Noah’s face as he looks at you says it all. He adores you… AND that Slurpee! Thank you for being such an awesome big brother. You always have been, and I know you always will be.
Love you both ~ Mom

The journaling reads:

Argo, when they meet you for the first time, many people ask us if you are an older fella since you have some colouring on your face, legs and muzzle. They wonder aloud if maybe you are a bit grizzled, like many older Black Labs do become. But, with a closer look, they see that it is brown/tan colour, not grey. You have what is termed "brindle" colouring. It sometimes shows up in the Lions Foundation of Canada's breeding program... it's not very common, but AADG Head Trainer Chris Fowler told us that it makes an appearance every once in a while.  Some folks have asked us whether you may have a wee bit of “Rottie” in you. I am able to assure them that you are a purebred Black Lab and that your special colouring can be explained through genetics. It’s so interesting! Your brindle shows really well in this photo. You are just so darned cute with your brown eyebrows and touches of brown and tan on your legs and face!
