Guest Design Team Member Contest over at SBCH!~

Are you Scrapbooker’s Club House’s next “Guest Designer?"

Each month at SBCH we will be choosing from your entries to see who our next Guest Designer will be. Sound interesting?
Here are the details:

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This holiday usually involves family gathering for the big meal so we would love to see altered items for the table.
Ex. napkin holders/rings, altered vases, place cards, candle holders etc.

Upload your entries in the “November Guest DT Contest” Gallery with your NAME before the deadline: Sunday October 26, 2008.

The winner will be SBCH GDT for the Month of November and will receive a Kit of the month to create designs with. Your creations will then be posted in our Guest Design Team Gallery.

You will also be able to participate along with SBCH Design Team in posting a monthly challenge to SBCH members.

A card for Creatively Yours...

A floral embellie - from a SCARF!?? You can do it in just 10 SIMPLE STEPS!!

This flower is a silk flower cut from a scarf I purchased at Frenchy's, just for scrappin'!! I paid 35 cents for it, and it is COVERED with flowers! HAPPY DANCE!

Here's how I created this embellie in "10 Simple Steps!"

1. Find an old "silky" or silk scarf that you no longer wear.
2. Choose the portion of design you'd like to have on your page. Here I used a flower, and will refer to it as such thru this little "how-to..."
3. Carefully cut out the flower, leaving some border around it (this gives you some leeway in case the scissors slip... we are only human after all!)
4. Then, lay flower on top of some waxed paper (Yup, the stuff from the kitchen.)
5. Mod-podge well, using a paintbrush. Flower is flat at this point. (BTW, I use glossy Podge.)
6. Allow to dry COMPLETELY. You will note that the flower is sealed to the wax paper as the flower was/is somewhat porous. (It's supposed to end up like that.)
7. Carefully cut out flower which is sealed to the wax paper.
8. Add a couple of Scotch foam adhesive squares or a big flat button under flower to give dimension. I prefer the button.
9. Glue flower atop a medallion of fabric or patterned paper. The fabric medallion here was cut from a cloth table napkin with all those COOL circles on it! **GRIN**
10. You can then curve or bend the flower's petals a wee bit for your final "look," and even add leaves using the same technique!

Here is a card I made using the flower created below; some punches, a greeting stamp, and a little ink, plus my AC Slickwriter (Chestnut). Hope you like it!

Sooo pleased with the way this turned out!!! I used scraps from FIVE different patterned papers. Four were scraps of BasicGrey. LOVE using up pretty scraps...

Who wouldn’t want their favourite activity to directly involve the creation of a precious gift?

I’ve been able to meld my interest in writing with a high-energy attitude and a dash of creativity to chronicle the tales of our lives in my scrapbooks. This paper-based art form strikes a vibrant chord in me. Memories are a legacy to be shared and I believe that they are a more-than-precious gift for anyone who is part of a family or a community of people who care about one another.

I know instinctively that working on my paper craft is more than a hobby: it’s a labour of love for my family and a way of showing respect for those who have gone before and for those who will come afterward. I take it very seriously, but treasure the joy it brings me! Because it combines so many of my interests and talents, I’ve realized that it is likely the direction in which my professional writing will turn. Soooooo exciting!

Writing and scrapbooking are my two FAVOURITE activities.
How blessed am I, able to do both?

I haven't done a 2-page layout in AGES and this one said "TWO PAGES" very clearly when I looked at the pics I had! I did this in response to a challenge set over @ Scrapbooker's Club House... go see! It was a BLAST!

Scrappy Tip!~

Guess how I made the acrylic painted borders!!

I carefully washed and dried a peach pit. Then I mixed the paint until it was the colour I wanted. I rolled the pit in in and then rolled it along the edges of both sheets of cardstock. Allowed to dry 15-20 min... Voila!!! So neat and fun to do.

The page above incorporates patterned paper from the following BasicGrey Collections: "LilyKate," "Two Scoops" and "AcidWashed." The brocade at the bottom of the photos, going across the page, is ribbon from another BasicGrey Collection called "Urban Couture." It was so much fun to mix all of these BasicGrey Collections on this page.

HERE'S A SCRAPPY TIP!!

In order to make the flower petals curl nicely, as you see above, glue flower in place in the centre. Then, gently push the petals upward with your fingers until you're satisfied with their position.
Next, using a small paintbrush, apply mod-podge to the flower from the centre out, coating the petals.
The petals will stay nicely curled, and may even curl a bit more as they dry.
If you use gloss podge as I did on this page, you will also see a nice sheen on the petals.
Give it a try! It's so pretty!

A Parrot in his all his Finery!!!

Daniel created this beautiful artwork in Grade 2, in Ms. A.'s class.

I thought it was awesome, and when I saw this crazy parrot patterned paper at Carshand Mosher, I just HAD to have it! It was in a bargain bin: 10 sheets of any paper in the bin for $1.00... So I paid 10 cents for the paper. Too funny!! As soon as I saw it I knew it was perfect for the parrot, created in June.

I am so proud of Daniel's artwork!

This month, I was thrilled to set the "Quote Challenge" over at my favourite hang-out, Scrapbooker's Club House.

A Clipboard Creation!

Here is something I did just for fun. Had always wanted to do one of these!

Everything used was recycled: scrappy "scrap-paper," yarn bits, flowers, etc... The turquoise flower on the upper right of the clipboard pic came from my good friend Sherry, on a card she sent awhile back. Thanks Sherry!

The clipboard is going to hang on the wall right next to my work area so I can get to it easily. It is totally useable with just a few (2-3) sheets of paper clipped in over the flowers, which actually aren't bumpy at all. I made sure of that, cause I wanted this to be handy and fun to use with no bumps under my paper when I am jotting notes!

My First Car

This layout was done in response to a "Book of Me" (BOM) challenge posted by Mary C. in her monthly Design Team challenge over at SBCH. As I was saying to the gals over at SBCH, the car key here is worn, but NOT rusty. Weird how it appears that way!

Also, of course the LO is straight in real life... :O) Pictures can be funny that way! Drives me nuts! LOL

This is a simple one, but I felt I really wanted to get this scrapped, and it didn't need anything fancy. I had saved the key and photo for AGES! Hope you like it!

My First Car

I bought this 1984 Pontiac-6000 from my Dad in 1989.

I paid Dad the $2500.00 that he asked for it. He helped me navigate getting a personal line of credit at CIBC, and I was on my way.

I didn’t know how to drive at the time. I learned after I’d bought the car!! I was 21 years old, and my best friend (Helen) taught me. This was a huge step, a “key” to my adult independence.

Sometime between 1989-1991 I also had the car repainted. I took my “6000” out to Alberta when I moved there as a single gal to be with Pete. We got married in 1992....

In 1995, we had 4 new (salvage) doors put on the car, and had it fully repainted. It did us proud when we moved to Greenwood, NS in 1996 and were a "single-car family-of-four" for awhile. The military contractor wrecked the car transporting it here on a flatbed when we were posted in, but they did the repairs and my car lasted us until the year 2000 before our last 2 children were born. The engine in it was still good, but the frame “discombobulated” itself in the driveway: it couldn’t handle the 16 years and 350,000 KM the car had on it!

Brown’s Auto Salvage came & took it away, paying us $50.00 for it. I was so sad to see it go.

I’ve loved Pontiacs ever since owning this car. Pontiac has stopped making the 6000-model of course. (Probably b/c it was such a good car!)

Since 2006, I have owned a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, which is also a dream to drive.
