"Who Needs Paper?"

This LO was created with inspiration from one of Deanne's layout sketches posted on Dec 1, 2008 from her "Just my Sketches" Blog.

I did this LO for one of the 8 challenges on her Am I a Scrap Addict? Blog Crop. It's based on the rock, paper scissors game and had to have ONE of those 3 words in the title! I chose "Paper." I stitched on the paper and cardstock, 'cause I always tell everyone how much "I love to sew on PAPER..." That was my inspiration for this layout-- in addition of course to the CUTE pics Mary took of Daniel in 2007 while the kids were visiting with her and Uncle Gil! Daniel was using markers and glitter glue to decorate door hangers and was having a GREAT time. He was so absorbed in his work!

Hope you like this!

Thread was Trident brand 000-61 from my stash.

The word "pony" from the "Pony Pride" LO (seen here under "Treasured Pony") is what I repeated for the new LO, below. This LO is based on Deanne's Sketch from Feb 13, 2009 on her Just my Sketches blog.

"Love in Abundance" layout, from my own sketch, was created for Deanne's "Am I a Scrap Addict?" Blog Crop Challenge #2 (Monday, Mar 23): "Challenge for you today is to use 4 of something OR 3 of something on your layout OR card."

Here, I used 4 letters L*o*v*e* and a photo of 3 people: me, Pete and Noah at Noah's June 2007 graduation from Preschool!

This Layout reads as follows:

Love in Abundance

Because life’s full, I’ve developed the habit of writing update letters & sending them out to family & friends.

My friend Cecile in Alberta is one of those friends. She was our doctor out west and actually delivered Bryan! She and her family came by to say hello and have supper with us when they made a trip to the Maritimes in 2004.

Anyway, at Christmas 2008, we rec’d a beautiful card from Cecile, as we do every year. As you can see it says: “Ali, I do enjoy your news. They always make me feel so happy and hopeful. I keep Noah in my prayers. With your abundant love he will succeed.”

Well, this meant more to me than I can tell you.

Since Noah was diagnosed with ASD in Dec 2004, we had been finding our way—the way to best help our little boy. Although we were 3 years into our journey with Noah, the vote of confidence from our friend and former family doctor was a real boost. It was what I needed to hear MOST right then.

In this June 2007 photo, we were enjoying Noah’s “Graduation” from preschool.

Cousin Toby: AKA "Odie"

Hi Everyone! I have a special LO to share with you all tonight! This is Daniel at age ALMOST 7 (Summer 2007) visiting at my middle sister Mary and her husband Gil's home in NB.
Hope you like it!
Journaling reads:
Daniel (almost 7) loved Toby, Mary and Gil’s Cocker Spaniel. When he visited Tante Mary and Uncle Gil at their new home in Riverview, NB in July 2007, Daniel got to spend lots of time playing with his “Cousin Odie.” Daddy and I LOVED this photo of the two of them enjoying one another’s company!!

Photo~ July 2007
Journaling~ March 2009
(I also mentioned that my fave nickname for Toby was "Odie." That was what Daniel USED to call him before he could pronounce "Toby.")

This LO is based upon a sketch by Deanne Burton located on her "Just my Sketches" blog. Here's the sketch!

"Pony Pride"

This layout shows Kate, Bryan and their haflinger-quarterhorse pony "Oakley" at the E******* Pony Club's 2007 Christmas Party held at Valley Pride Farms in ********, NS, where the lesson horses wintered in the season of 2007-2008. Both Bryan and Kate were members of EPC at the time.
Oakley, Monty, & Abe were all there at the farm. (Impulse was as well, although he's Christina's pony and not a lesson horse.)
I used a play on words as the title: "Pony Pride." That sounds like "Pony Ride..." and also since "Pride" was in the name of the Farm, it made sense. Additionally, that was also the last name of a close family member!
How's THAT for a play on words?! Ok, now, I admit that it must have all been subconscious, though, as I didn't plan that, and didn't even realize it until after the layout was done and titled!

There were pics of Oakley's mane, all festively beribboned in Christmas red and green for the party, but unfortunately someone cut her pretty nose/face off when they took the photo! EEK!
So... that pic didn't make the layout! Now, there is a good tip about what I do, as a scrappy Mom, with those occasional "imperfect" (but oh-still-so-worth-keeping) photos. I place them on the BACK of the related LO!
(Yes...that photo is now adhered to the back of my LO.)

This layout was created using Deanne Burton's sketch from February 15, 2009 on her "Just my Sketches" Blog.
Here it is:

Thanks for checking it out! I really like this LO. And: That sketch is one of my favourites!

Thanks to you for popping in for a quick visit!

A kitten LO...

Here is our Tootsie, AKA Fancy Pants, AKA Priscilla, AKA Miss Priss!

She is a fancy "big cat" now, a long-haired Calico...what a beauty... but here she is as a sweet baby-cat in June 2007, rescued in May by our friends Tammy and Steve, and adopted by us later that month. Tammy named her Tootsie b/c she was always underfoot! **grin**

This LO was created using a sketch from Deanne Burton over at "Sisterhood of Scrap," a really GREAT scrapbooking-themed blog owned and run by 3 sisters: Deanne B., Carla Robinson and Susan Coish. (Happy Birthday Deanne!)

Here's that neat sketch!

Thanks for checking this out... Sure hope you like it! Leave a comment and say hi today! Love hearing from you all.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Thanks for going over and checking it out!

Meet Duncan!

... He is the sweet miniature Shetland Pony who shares Oakley's paddock. I just love him! He is about 17 years old & partially blind but has good quality of life and takes the little girl who owns him for rides. He is ridden English. Isn't he a darling?
I like to feed him carrots when we go up to see Oakley with the family. :O) It is always a highlight to see Duncan too!!

Do you see how long his forelock is? To keep it out of his eyes, they braid it and tie it up! Can you see the braid on his forehead here? It's almost down to his nose! Duncan has a gorgeous mane.

Pretty pony.

This is his windblown look! LOL.
"Bye for now everyone!" I will get more pics when the Spring comes and he doesn't need a coat anymore. (His winter coat [blanket as they call it] is a LOT like Oakley's! There are 2 purple coated horses (well, Oakley and Duncan are technically both ponies...but I always say horses...) in that paddock. It's funny. Rain and Echo's coats are green, and blue/burgundy.)
Here is Oakley in her purple winter coat! Pretty girl!
Thanks for coming by!! xox

New 'do!!

I got a new hairdo... Hope you like it! LOL!
Thanks to my wonderful long-time friend and hair stylist, Sheri at "Reflections"!!
Love,

Oma Agnes' 1998 Visit to Greenwood

A little over 10 years ago, the children's Great-grandmother, "Oma Agnes," came to Greenwood, NS from Moncton, NB where she had been visiting. She had travelled to see her daughter Chris (my Mom in law), all the way from Germany! My inlaws brought her to Greenwood to see us and the children, KAte and Bryan, for the first time (back then we only had 2.) We had such a nice visit! WE had last seen Oma Agnes at our wedding in 1992. Although these are not the nicest pics of Pete and me, I still love to look at them because Oma looks so happy to be with us.

I just adored her despite the language barrier. (She spoke only limited English and I "have" only a few ill-pronounced but usable German phrases!)

As time passed, Chris went to Germany to see her Mom yearly, 'cause it was harder for Oma to travel. She did very well working in her garden and enjoying her vegetables and flowers. She had a green thumb! Unfortunately, after 3 smaller strokes, Oma Agnes had a serious stroke in November 2008 and passed away January 2009 in Germany. We miss her.

I did this *page in bright colours. I was thinking of how Oma Agnes would see it... Since her vision was failing, I imagined what the page needed to look like for her to be able to MOST easily take it in. For some reason that was important to me, although she's gone.

Also, there are lots of flowers on the papers and added to the page itself because Oma loved flowers & green, growing things!!
I still need to add the year of Oma Agnes' birth to the area just below her photo. Need to go check on that.
Supplies~
Patterned papers:
Rose swirl: Make it Special
Purple floral: Make it special (?possibly, could be "Slab")
Cross-stitched look multicoloured paper: Mod, 2005

Pony Club Testing 2007

This is my last LO for today. I'll get a better pic in the AM! :o)

It is of Kate and her pony Oakley, all ready for testing. (They did well.)

And here is the sketch I based it on, created by Deanne Burton on her "Just my Sketches" blog, Dec 1, 2008:

I like this sketch 'cause I can use buttons as the "round" embellies shown.

Great easy to use Sketch- thanks Deanne! TY for looking everyone!
