My cousin's kiddos!

OK, I admit it: I am a photo nut, Yep, true blue!

I LOVE it when people send us pictures in the mail! I consider them a fun and thoughtful gift. I always save them, and sometimes have the chance to scrapbook these precious gifts!

The photo  below is of my cousin's kiddos, "D. and J."

I received this photo at Christmas 2007. I have wanted to "scrap it" for a long  time!
Aren't they cute? (Their little faces are smudged for internet safety reasons.)

Thanks to my cousin Darcie and her spouse Harold for the pictures!

Sketch inspiration for this layout came from Annmaree K, [AUS] from the Sisterhood of Scrap Summer Sketchbook Challenge. Thanks Annmaree!

D and J- Darcie and Harold's kids in a Christmas Card photo, 2007
I had the pleasure of using the double-sided papers from the Piggy Tales "Simple Simon" collection for this layout. I just love their beautiful papers, and they are a "green" company, so ALL the better!

Supplies:

Cardstock: "Bumblebee"- Bazzill
Dark teal-blue: "Adieu"  Item #468 Piggy Tales "Simple Simon" Collection
Floral: "Plums" Item #463 Piggy Tales "Simple Simon" Collection
Atoms: scrap from  Piggy Tales "Simple Simon" Collection
Pale yellow trees: scrap of Crate paper
Striped paper: Daisy Bucket "Playlist" Collection: "Synchronize"
Ink: Darice, Ink it up! Turquoise #1027-12
Title lettering and brackets: Pink Paislee, Fascination lettering

Flowers cut from "Plum" paper, using Cutterbee scissors and inkled, then mod-podged to add body/definition.

Teal & pale yellow ric-rac: from Savvy 'n Sassy August 2010 "Summer Adventures" Ribbon Kit.

Adhesives: MM Ribbon Glue, Pritt Glue Stick, Glue Dots, and Mod-Podge; photo splits from Dollarama

Enjoy! Thanks for visiting today! Have a great weekend!

Where animals live...

Please read. TY...
Where animals live...
Noah (8, with quite profound Autism) and Bryan (15) were playing. Noah had come over to Bry and said "Play with animals." The usual format of this game we "play" with Noah goes like this:
Bryan (or whomever) asks Noah the name of each animal as he holds it/them up from a HUGE bin of MANY animals. Noah names the animal(s). Sometimes he will say "BROWN" horse (etc...) -- adding a descriptor (... ie- adjective). This is wonderful as sometimes we don't ask for the descriptor and he gives it without a prompt. Language is such a challenge for Noah... and for many children with ASD. We do whatever we can to promote language use and development. this game is a fave of his. ANYWAY:
THEN Bry asks Noah what noise/sound the animal makes. Noah answers. This was the USUAL form of their game. Noah is very successful at this. This time, just for the heck of it, I told Bry to try asking Noah where the animals lived.

Bryan did so. Noah FLOORED us.

Here are his VERBATIM answers:

Seal- "in the Polar regions"

Giraffe- "on the savannah"

Dog-“in my house” OR “On the farm and in the house”

Polar bear- "in the Polar regions"

Duck- "on the river"

Donkey- "on the farm"

Lion- "on the savannah"

It's really cute: Sometimes Noah pronounces "the savannah" as "the sannannah."

We have NEVER taught him ANY of this in a formal way. As you know, Noah LOVES animals. He has likely picked this up from books, school or You Tube/PBS kids' shows. I do know that one book I bought him, in particular DOES say that lions live on the savannah. I recall that he likes this book a lot-- I used to read it to him at his request.

However, we have never formally taught him any of this.

Smart little AMAZING guy!!!!!!! He is taking it ALL in.
