The journaling reads:

Fashionable (?)

These photos trigger a trunk-full of memories about “fashion!”

(1) In my Grade One photo, I was wearing a pale green smocked dress made by my Great-Auntie Nina. Mom did my hair in the morning, and I think she put a mint-green bow in it. The heart-shaped gold locket was accented by a tiny green peridot. My Mom lent me the locket because it matched my dress. (She told me in October 2007 that she still has the locket.)

(2) In Grade Three, I had a blouse with tiny bouquets of flowers on it- a favourite. I also had my ears pierced- my Mom’s co-worker, Peggy, had done it earlier that year with some ice, a bar of soap and a big needle. I remember that Mom couldn’t even come into the house when Peggy was doing it! To this day, one of my earring-holes is a wee bit higher than the other. I remember a summer at about this age when Mary and I BEGGED our Mom for bikinis. Mom was a good sewer, so she made them for us. They had little skirted bottoms, and were made from polyester crimpoline- the ‘fabric-du-jour,’ back then, as some will recall! (We looked sooooo cute.) I can remember us both running around outside wearing the bikinis; probably tearing through the sprinkler, which we did a lot in the summer to cool off. My little girly-girl bikini was mint green with a checked skirt and I THINK that Mary’s was red.

(3) I remember that my best friend Karen had the same blue, navy and red print top I was wearing in this picture. Our Moms ordered them from the Sears catalogue. (Karen and I thought that was pretty hilarious!)

Glasses frames and lenses were really big in the 1970’s & ‘80’s, so in my teenage pictures, you can see the glasses more than the person wearing them! They were like owl eyes!! Glasses now, in comparison, are so small.

(4) The outfit I’m wearing here was brand-spanking new. I was in grade 10, about age 15, and I was so proud of that outfit! (That probably explains why I was showing it off!) I think I got the jeans at a chain store called Thrifty’s at Champlain Place, which was THE coolest place to buy jeans. Belts were always worn with jeans back then. The pink blouse ended up being a real favourite of mine, and I wore it until it pretty much fell apart! The pale blue Volkswagen Beetle was ever-present when I was a kid. Mom called it her “cookie-can”- I can clearly see her getting into her Beetle in the mornings with her cup of coffee (black; one ice cube) carefully balanced as she started it up.

Funny what memories a few photos can trigger!

Journaling reads:
These are my three favourite photos of you, Sheena. So many times we think of you, knowing we were blessed to have you with us for those 5 short months. Your time here was such a gift. Jane very aptly called it your “twilight adventure.” You were thirteen years old. Your sweetness provided a happy distraction for us in the midst of an intensely busy time. Having you close somehow felt as though we had our Teddi with us again. Many times Peter and I remarked on your ethereal quality; the aura of pure sweetness that surrounded you. There were times we turned and suddenly Teddi was standing there, in you. This amazing experience didn’t take away from YOU, Sheena, it multiplied the love we had to share with you; it sparked a glow inside us. Knowing you was heartwarming. You were wisdom, gentleness and joy. Thank you, Sheena, for being with us during your twilight months.
We love you, sweet girl.

Snow Leopard

This snow leopard looks just like Lena, the snow leopard who used to watch and chase a much younger Bryan back and forth as he walked outside her huge enclosure! (I think Lena would have liked Bry to come for lunch!)
This classy lady was content to gaze at us quietly, with a peaceful yet watchful look in her gorgeous almond eyes. She was powerful looking, beautiful, and so majestic. I

think this is the best photograph that we ever took of a snow leopard at Oaklawn!!

To be able to see such a creature: what a treasured experience!

PROUD

Pete rec'd an award from his Squadron's Commanding Officer back when he was a Master Corporal, teaching at the 404 Squadron technical school on Base... I am so proud of him.
He's very dedicated to serving our beautiful country.
Journaling reads:
404 MARITIME PATROL AND TRAINING SQUADRON
Commanding Officer’s Commendation
Presented to Master Corporal Pete MacDonald
The Commanding Officers’ Commendation is awarded to MCpl Pete MacDonald for his outstanding work streamlining the CP-140 2nd Line Radar Course.
His initiative significantly proves the Squadron’s ability to meet critical manning requirements in the field. MCpl MacDonald's comprehensive knowledge of the Radar 2nd Line Facility and his willingness to challenge the status quo were instrumental in developing a new approach to radar training that now complements the way techniques are employed in the 2nd line repair facilities.
His program gets technicians back into the field 2 months sooner, eliminates unnecessary training, and provides the field with the flexibility in training that they need.
MCpl MacDonald has unselfishly employed his innovation and expertise to the greater benefit of the CP-140 fleet. This commitment to the squadron goals and his dedication to the CP-140 fleet are applauded.

Three Bugs in a Rug!

Just had to let you all know that 2 of my LO's (actually, one is a mini-album) have been chosen for the Three Bugs in A Rug online Idea Gallery!

Here is the link: http://www.3bugsinarug.com/gallery/idea_more.asp?tID=1&icid=34

They are both in the left hand column of layouts shown, you'll see my name beside them. I'm sooooo excited! Enjoy! Thanks for checking them out! ~ Ali

A fun little creation!

Here is something I made for a "repurposing" challenge at Scrapbooker's Clubhouse. It is simply 4 tic-tac containers with lids, covered with beautiful patterned paper and made into a dispenser for thin ribbon or fibers. I also added some small wooden beads from a necklace of Kate's that broke a couple of summers ago.

Looks so darned cute, and keeps the pretties from becoming tangled! It was fun eating and enjoying all the tic tacs for this! **wink**

One pic shows the dispenser closed so you can see how it is made. I usually keep it open though, with the ribbon all ready to pull out.

The other pic shows the ribbon dispenser "open," ie: all 4 tic tac container tops are flipped open with ribbon/fiber ready to pull out as needed.

SUPPLIES:

Repurposed items: 4 tic-tac containers with lids, washed and labels removed; and 5 round wooden beads from an old broken summer necklace

Scotch tape (or packing tape) to secure the 4 little containers side by side
