"Scrapbooking is personal. It’s about opening up and sharing your own life. It makes us human. It makes us reflect on who we are and where we want to be in life. It helps us discover the beauty (the art) in the midst of our life, and the life in the midst of our art."
~Ali Edwards

That's a quote from my scrapbooking idol: Ali E.

Ali Edwards really has it together- she says it 'just right.' This is what scrapbooking is all about: SHARING. LIVING. REFLECTING. DISCOVERING. EXPLORING.

Thank you, Ali E., for saying it so well.

Riding is Music: Hoofbeats

This layout was done as a "sneak peek" Design Team assignment for Scrapbooker's Clubhouse (SBCH). What a great, friendly place, full of talented & caring people! This creation was made with the gorgeous Paper trunk papers and a Hambly transparency from the SBCH September kit, soon to be available. You can check out SBCH here: http://www.scrapbookersclubhouse.com/

Thanks to my friend Sherry for the tip about changing the brad's colour with nailpolish! Great idea!
Journaling reads:

Riding is Music

Kate, I wonder, when I’m watching you ride, whether you hear rhythm and music to match the beat of your horse’s hooves. You and Oakley look so free, but I know you’re a team, working very hard together to make it look easy. You’re both so beautiful; I really do think that there must be music in riding.

I know without a doubt that this is what you are meant to do…I hope you always hear music in your heart, wherever the horses take you.

I love you, sweetie.

~Mom

Kate & Bryan were the recipients of such thoughtfully chosen treats! The sparkly princess outfit, wooden trains, and the magnetic science set were all high on the exciting gift list! From the expressions on their faces, you can tell the kids were tired, thankful and thrilled, all at the same time. How cute is that?? Scientist

I love how this layout shows Daniel's little hands. He had just turned six wen this was taken. Here is the journaling:
" Daniel is our little scientist. He loves the thrill of gathering facts and learning new things.

As we unpacked from our late summer trip in the rented RV, Daniel settled himself into a canvas chair on the front lawn beside the garden and read about caterpillars in a French book called Chenilles et papillons. As he read, he watched a caterpillar creeping among the leaves.

Daniel named his fuzzy green friend “Callisto” after one of the Galilean moons of Jupiter.

The next day, Daniel went out in the garden, but Callisto was gone. Daniel was quite upset until Daddy told him that Callisto probably had a family to take care of and had to go home. This seemed to soothe Daniel’s sadness. It made sense to him: after all, he had a Daddy, too, and his Daddy gave him lots of love and care!

Our scientist was, first and foremost, a little boy!"

A Beautiful Garden

"One of the things that’s most fun about summer for our family is taking care of our garden and watching our beautiful perennials in their cycle of greening, growing and blooming. The Shasta daisies and the day lilies in these pictures are two colourful sights in our front garden. It’s such a treat every year for our family when they bloom and turn their faces toward the warm sun!! Garden photos~ July 2006"

July 2007 note: I am thrilled to tell you that these photos are pretty much identical to the growth of the daisies and lillies we have in our front garden this year too.

Sensory Input!

FEEL: These 2 pix were taken in our garden last May (2006). Noah loves the feel of the sun on his face and the cool sensation & texture of grass on his cheek. Can you tell? Look at that sweet happy face! Noah has Autism Spectrum Disorder and seeks out input to help him make sense of the world. The looks on his face tell us how much he enjoys the input he's discovered! Imagine experiencing the world this way! Hope you like it, and thanks for looking.

A creative recycling idea!!

This is sooooooo funny. I needed a small ironing board in my scraproom, so I made one from the old fabric highchair pad (no more highchairs here) and a piece of mahogany that Pete had finished in Shop class many moons ago in high school. I covered the wood with a piece of the high chair pad I'd made, Dh stapled it well, and-- Presto!!! A great ironing board! Too funny and SO USEFUL and small- easy to store. Iron was on special at Zellers. I love the shape and size of it too. ENJOY! Happy Canada Day!

Oma's 90th Birthday!

I made a card for Oma Agnes' 90th birthday. She is Peter's Grandma (Oma) and our children's only living Great-Grandmother (Ur-Oma). She lives in Germany and is still in her own home, and has been known to chase the wild boars out of her garden! She joked with Peter yesterday on the phone about being old. What a character.
The font used for the German greeting (= Happy Birthday Oma) is called "Cotillion."
Enjoy! Thanks a million for looking!

Inside the card...

A birthday card for Patricia

Peter's sister's birthday is coming up and I had so much fun with the Father's Day cards that I decided to do a birthday card for her! I love how this turned out.

More cards:

This card is for my dad in law (Doug). It has an old fashioned pocket watch image on it because he enjoys geneaology and I used the watch could represent the passage of time.
The verse I chose for the inside of the two Father's Day cards says: "You're the kind of Dad most people wish they had." Perfect! Hope you like them!

My first-ever card...!!

I have been using up scraps of cardstock and patterned paper and have made 4 cards: my first attempts. The first 2 were Father's Day cards, and the next 2 were birthday cards. Had fun- really enjoyed this!
Of course we enclosed photos of the kids inside all 4 cards!

The card above is for my Dad. It has music notes along the top because he likes to play the piano and music is a HUGE part of his life. :)

All About Easy...

Journaling reads:
I don’t believe in making things complicated. With a big family, the simpler the better for me! This way I have more time to spend with everyone.

This was our lunch on Christmas Day, 2005. We had vegetables and dip, mandarin oranges, plus crackers, cheese, lean ham and turkey slices. I took photos because it all looked so beautiful! The veggies were all sliced the evening before so this was easy to put together.

Yummy, easy and healthy—and we needed THAT after sharing a box of chocolates (or two) throughout the morning while opening Christmas gifts. ** Big Wink**

Post-it Note Holder

A cute idea I found on one of my favourite scrapbooking sites. This little project used scraps of cardstock, thread, and floss, plus some metal buttons from the Frenchy's button-bin to create... Now, this is the first one, I'll do better at it as I practice this... the flap is closed with adhesive velcro and there is a square Post-it notepad inside!! Enjoy! :) Thanks for looking!
